The European Union considers the climate changes to be the one of
the most serious threads that our planet has faced.
If the global temperature goes up by more than 2°C in comparison to the
one before industrialization, it is likely that the change of the climate is
becoming irreversible.
Burning fossil energy resources, deforesting, drying up the Earth surface and
intensive agricultural and animal production causes an enormous amount of gases
getting into the atmosphere, which causes greenhouse effect and climate changes.
Eventually, it is reflected on the changes of average temperature of the air and
oceans, as well as growing average surface level of the oceans.  Eleven out of last
twelve years belong among the top hottest years.
In the course of the 20th century, the sea level has risen by 17 cm. This increase
should continue in the 21st century by next 18 to 59 cm.
It is to be expected, that by the end of the century the thermic flow in the
northern Atlantic will be weakened by one quarter. Furthermore, as a consequence
of these changes, it is probable that the extreme weather will occur more often. In
the midlands and highlands there will be a lot of snow and rain, in tropical areas it
will get drier and tropical cyclones will occur more often, too.
One third of the CO2 volume in the atmosphere comes from the heating of
buildings and water heating.
Between 1970 and 2004 emissions of greenhouse gases rose by 70%.  Energy
supply rose by 145%. The increase in transportation was 120% and in different
industries it was 60%. Forty percent increase was caused by a decreased ability of
woods to absorb the CO2 emissions and by changes in the use of land.
